The Mark degree is often seen as the next step after the Craft, and its ritual is an extension of the Fellowcraft story. Being a companion order, its costs are much less than membership of a Craft lodge. The officers are similar to those in the Craft, and the lodge is less formal, happy and proud to be known as the "friendly degree".
Lewis Mark (and that is not a typing error) is over 130 years old and has always met in the same temple. It has an active membership of many backgrounds and ages.
Meetings
We meet on the fourth Tuesday of January, March and May, and hold our installation meeting in November. In January we hold a white table Burns Night, and there are a few other social events each year. If you are interested in joining, we usually invite candidates to our social events so that they can meet the members informally.
How the Mark is run
The Mark has its own Grand Lodge, with its own building, Mark Masons Hall, at St James, London. The Mark Grand Secretary also administers most of the other companion orders. In Sussex there is a separate Mark Provincial Grand Lodge with its own Provincial Grand Master and officers.
Attached to the Mark is a separate order, the Royal Ark Mariners, whose lodges are each attached to a Mark lodge. Lewis Mark Lodge is linked to the Lewis Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners.
